As a way of encouraging students to consider a career in Spatial Science, REROC in conjunction with RivSig and the Riverina Institute of TAFE conducted a 1 day camp at Boorambola on 31 August 2009.
This was the first time any such camp had been held and it was pleasing that 6 local students enrolled.
Keith McDonald from the Riverina Institute of TAFE developed a course which covered the basic concepts of using GPS receivers to collect data for the preparation of maps.
Course content included:
- Basic navigation of ArcGIS 9.3 software
- Map layouts
- Collecting and entering GPS data
- Map Coordinate systems
- GPS Accuracy
- Operating a basic GPS receiver
